No worries. Good you rescued the first one. Maybe 2nd was a potential mate turning up.

It was 2 x moths. Sorry, it was the early days of me putting photos up on Nature Map and I thought cause they were together, it was important to note. (I would do this differently now) We found one in a bowl of water and thought it had drowned. I had been looking at it on my hand, and then it moved, so I placed it in the shad on the fence. Then, when we came back to see if it was ok, we noticed another moth. (some metres away) One of the moths was a darker colour. Apologies, for any confusion. They were beautiful moths.

Our policy is to stick with the AFD unless a species is missing from threir listing.

both showing wings appear to be Opodiphthera helena. (based on Moths of Vic Pt.1 2nd Ed.) The first one, with the broad band across the wing is a bit like O. loranthi, but it looks like the band needs to be more suffused/less well defined lines than the moth above. BOLD has moved Opodiphthera to a new genus Austrocaligula. As yet ALA/AFD have not moved.

@donhe, @ibaird & @WendyEM I found this sighting in the Unidentified listing (very old, from 2021). There appears to be two specimens in these photos, so I’m not sure if they are the same species or whether they need to be separated before they can be Verified?
