Don sorry I did not get back to you promptly on this. I see the identification has been confirmed. The sapling was part of a coconut ant nest and was very lerp-infested. I am not good at juvenile foliage but most of the surrounding larger trees are Red Boxes. Thanks, Jacky
Don - sorry, I have been very ill with bronchitis. I went and coughed at many saplings with coconut ants on them in this area yesterday but could not locate the casemoth again. My memory of this sapling is that the leaves did not look caterpillar-chewed, but were extensively damaged by lerps, like most in this area. I did not smell any leaves but I am confident it was a eucalypt. Sorry I really did try hard to find it again. Cheers, Jacky
